Find a Lawyer through Video Directories
Finding a lawyer can be a maddening process. Even though the Internet has made it easier than ever to find reliable, well-reviewed and tested products, looking online for quality professionals, whether they’re lawyers, contractors or plumbers, isn’t much better than flipping through the Yellow Pages. Lawyers all start to sound the same, and there aren’t many reviews available online—and even if some lawyers have them, it’s hard to know how reliable they are. Fortunately, there’s a new trend emerging among law firms: posting videos online. While some of these regrettably mirror the stilted “Have you been hurt? Then call us!” commercial television advertisements, the majority are informational in nature, answering questions that many first-time users of lawyers have. Here’s how those videos can help you narrow your search:
1 You’ll start getting to know the lawyers. Using your own eyes and ears to watch, listen to, and judge the lawyer in the video gives you a leg up over just reading about him or her. What we see and hear largely determines how we view people, and videos give our instincts (which are usually pretty reliable) something to grab a hold of. And you’ll get to see how professional, educated, and thorough the lawyer seems—key attributes for any successful lawyer. Getting to know the lawyers out there will help you find the right one.
2 You’ll know that they’re really in the 21st century. The 21st century is a tech-heavy one, and you want a lawyer to match. Chances are, any lawyer that uploads videos is pretty tech savvy—or at least employs tech-savvy people. Why is this important? Because the more tools your lawyer has at her disposal, the more likely she is to win. Find a lawyer with a video, and you’ve found one who won’t miss a beat when it comes to using technology to help win your case.
3 You’ll save time. There are so many lawyers out there that narrowing the field down to three or four likely candidates can take ages, and you’ll probably wind up making capricious choices: “This one has a goofy smile;” “That one’s wearing a bow tie;” “This one used a semicolon incorrectly.” Instead of being arbitrary, why not weed out those who aren’t willing—or able—to allow prospective clients to start looking at and listening to them online? It shows that they’re confident enough to share some free legal information with you, and don’t mind being scrutinized, which is usually a good sign when it comes to trying to find a lawyer.
4 You’ll get educated while you do it. The majority of lawyer videos posted online attempt to educate prospective clients. They cover a wide range of questions that most new clients have—some of which are questions that you undoubtedly share. Rather than waiting to see a lawyer in person to get your answers, why not get your answers even as you find you lawyer?
Looking at lawyer videos can help you find a great lawyer, and you can find a host of them in one place: online lawyer video directories. These services can make it easier than ever to get the lawyer you deserve.

While videos are an excellent way to get to know lawyers/law firms, I would caution that if you’re ONLY doing videos it’s not going to be as effective as doing a combination of online and offline advertising. If you have a Youtube account but your website doesn’t exist (or looks like crap), or if you don’t advertise your videos in the newspaper/radio/whatever, then all the hard work you put into the video is for naught. Combine! Expand! Put yourself and your firm out there in as many areas as you can reasonably do. It’ll be worth it when the clients start pouring in.
Videos are definitely the way to begin. Just look how many hits you get on Youtube if you become popular. You just have to try to be hard hitting and topical, and certainly you can diversify once you get started.
I think it’s great to look up lawyers in video directories and to even use sites like Youtube. For lawyers that decide to use sites like Youtube though, you need to find a way to stand out. In a world where anybody can make a video, gives potential clients a reason to watch yours.
